​Okay, so my name is Martina Del Ben and I work as a neighbor coordinator for Marzhan. With Berlin Mondiale, we are developing workshops or events in the field of art and culture. But with the focus of migration and exile. And our main goal is through art and culture and gathering the people together and having an exchange of culture. Because we work in Marzhan, together we are developing free places, called "Platz ohne Name". We want to open space for art and culture with the neighborhood, developing this and this place all together. We also want people from the neighborhood who live close by to feel the place as their own place.
I prefer to develop this kind of workshop and events with the artist. For example, a nice experience that I had was with some young guys from a refugee shelter and they participated in different workshops at a photo workshop, like a printing workshop or cooking workshop. And then in Platz ohne Name we built a small shelter, a refugees shelter with the wood material. And it was nice. Yeah, we develop with them. And also because we were not speaking the same language but in a way we communicated and we understood and it was nice. They couldn't say so many things, but you understood that they appreciated it and so they came again the day after. So that was also a good result for us. And this makes me really happy to work with them. I am looking forward to seeing them in the other workshop that we are doing.
Sometimes we just ask some passengers and some people who are walking through Platz ohne Name, if they want to enjoy our workshop and they come and they appreciate it. They were not a lot but this small group, they were interesting and I remember one time when we did an excursion to Marzhan to find out which plants are eatable and which not. I had two moms with three small kids, and at the end we tried to paint with the natural color. And the mom said, "Yeah, come on, let's go home. Let's go home." and the child didn't want to go home because she had this really fun. It's also something that makes you happy, this is something nice that they appreciate. And I have the feeling that Platz ohne Name is a nice and strategic place, because a lot of people are passing by when we make ourselves visible with a tent and bench there. It was a bit difficult because of the season. If we make ourself really visible at the Platz ohne Name, I think we will reach people also without any advertisements. The place during the summer time is really beautiful, the fountain is working and benches there and there are many people. Just sitting there and enjoying the shadow. Okay, mein Name ist Martina Del Ben und ich arbeite als Nachbarschaftskoordinatorin für Marzhan. Mit Berlin Mondiale entwickeln wir Workshops und Veranstaltungen im Bereich Kunst und Kultur. Aber mit dem Fokus auf Migration und Exil. Und unser Hauptziel ist es, durch Kunst und Kultur die Menschen zusammenzubringen und einen kulturellen Austausch zu ermöglichen. Wir arbeiten in Marzhan und entwickeln gemeinsam freie Plätze, die wir "Plätze ohne Namen" nennen. Wir wollen mit der Nachbarschaft einen Raum für Kunst und Kultur öffnen und diesen Platz gemeinsam gestalten. Wir wollen auch, dass die Menschen aus der Nachbarschaft, die in der Nähe wohnen, den Platz als ihren eigenen Platz empfinden.
Ich ziehe es vor, diese Art von Workshops und Veranstaltungen mit den Künstler*innen zu entwickeln. Eine schöne Erfahrung zum Beispiel, die ich mit einigen jungen Leuten aus einer Flüchtlingsunterkunft gemacht habe, war, dass sie an verschiedenen Workshops teilgenommen haben, zum Beispiel an einem Fotoworkshop, einem Druckworkshop oder einem Kochworkshop. Und dann haben wir auf dem Platz ohne Namen eine kleine Unterkunft gebaut, eine Flüchtlingsunterkunft mit Holzmaterial. Und das war schön. Ja, wir entwickeln uns mit ihnen. Auch weil wir nicht die gleiche Sprache gesprochen haben, aber wir haben uns irgendwie verständigt und verstanden, und das war schön. Wir konnten nicht so viele Dinge zueinander sagen, aber ich habe verstanden, dass sie es zu schätzen wussten, und sie kamen am nächsten Tag wieder. Das war also auch ein gutes Ergebnis für uns. Und das macht mich wirklich glücklich, mit ihnen zu arbeiten. Ich freue mich schon darauf, sie in den anderen Workshops zu sehen, die wir durchführen werden.
Manchmal fragen wir einfach ein paar Passant*innen und Leute, die über den Platz ohne Namen gehen, ob sie unseren Workshop besuchen wollen, und sie kommen und wissen es zu schätzen. Das ist bisher nicht oft passiert, war aber jedes Mal interessant. Ich erinnere mich an eine Exkursion nach Marzhan, bei der wir herausfinden wollten, welche Pflanzen essbar sind und welche nicht. Ich hatte zwei Mütter mit drei kleinen Kindern dabei, und am Ende haben wir versucht, mit der natürlichen Farbe zu malen. Und die Mutter sagte: "Ja, komm, lass uns nach Hause gehen. Und das Kind wollte gar nicht nach Hause gehen, weil es so viel Spaß hatte. Das ist auch etwas, was dich glücklich macht, das ist etwas Schönes, wertgeschätzt wird. Und ich habe das Gefühl, dass der Platz ohne Namen ein schöner und strategisch gut gewählter Ort ist, weil viele Leute vorbeikommen, wenn wir uns dort mit einem Zelt und einer Bank bemerkbar machen. Es war ein bisschen schwierig wegen der Jahreszeit. Wenn wir uns am Platz ohne Name wirklich sichtbar machen, denke ich, dass wir die Leute auch ohne Werbung erreichen werden. Der Platz ist im Sommer wirklich schön, der Brunnen ist in Betrieb und es gibt Bänke und viele Leute. Sie sitzen einfach da und genießen den Schatten. Ich hoffe, dass ich das Interesse der Menschen, die dieses Interview hören, geweckt habe, und ich freue mich darauf, Sie alle auf dem Platz ohne Namen, bei unseren Veranstaltungen zu begrüßen.
